Electronics repair website iFixit this weekend shared an iPad mini 7 teardown video, which adds intrigue to the device’s “jelly scrolling” improvements.

“Jelly scrolling” refers to a screen tearing issue, causing text or images on one side of the screen to appear tilted downwards due to varying refresh rates. This can create a perception that one side of the display is responding more quickly than the other, leading to a noticeable visual disturbance. Some users noted this effect on the iPad mini 6 while using it in portrait mode, leading to complaints over the past three years, although it didn’t bother all users.

It was previously speculated that Apple might have adjusted the display controller position in the iPad mini 7 to minimize “jelly scrolling” visibility in portrait mode. However, iFixit found that the display controller’s position remains unchanged from the iPad mini 6. They concluded that Apple has employed some unknown techniques to alleviate the “jelly scrolling” issue, leaving the exact resolution methods shrouded in mystery.

The teardown video highlighted that the iPad mini 7’s rear Apple logo is removable, but the internal design closely resembles that of the iPad mini 6.

Apple launched the iPad mini 7 last week, featuring advancements such as the A17 Pro chip, Apple Intelligence support, and compatibility with Apple Pencil Pro, among others.
