After its 10-year anniversary, the “Winter Sports in Schools” (WaS) campaign is more relevant than ever. Over 3,000 elementary school students in the Imst and Landeck districts are supposed to find or maintain their enthusiasm for skiing with free ski days.

What used to be taken for granted is no longer the case today,” says former professional ski world champion and current chairman of the Tyrolean Ski Association Andre Arnold. What is meant is the ability of Tyrolean children to ski. Anticipating this development, eleven years ago he put together a team consisting of the Chamber of Commerce (WK), the cable car industry, ski instructors, sporting goods dealers, Sparkasse Imst and VVT in the Imst and Landeck districts and founded the initiative “Winter Sports in Schools”, WaS for short. The goal is clear : To awaken the enthusiasm for the white sport among elementary school students with free ski days or to secure it. 28,500 kids have already been lured onto the slopes. Since its founding, 28,500 kids have been “attracted” onto the slopes. It is no coincidence that the WK Landeck boarded this gondola in 2015. “70 “Percent of our companies live directly or indirectly from tourism,” says WK boss Otmar Ladner. He and his colleagues from the WaS network invited people to the Imster Sparkasse for information, because the free days in Hoch-Imst.3060 piste fleas started on that very day of 58 elementary schools This year too, WaS is a complete success. By the end of March, 3,060 students from 58 elementary schools in both districts will be taking part in the campaign on 26 ski days in 13 ski areas. School quality manager Kristin Prantl reports first hand: “It is the all-round carefree package that the campaign is makes it so successful. Children and teachers are thrilled.”The students receive ski passes from the participating mountain railways, rental equipment from sporting goods retailers and first-class supervision from qualified ski instructors from the local ski schools. The Tyrol Transport Association and its regional partners take care of the transport from the school to the ski areas and back. Everything is free! A “rescue operation” of popular skiing with a role model character and a declaration of war on Playstation and Co.
