Ignoring the Chief Rabbi: Attack on Bennett

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke today (Wednesday) at the Remembrance Day rally on Mount Herzl, in the presence of Staff A. The Prime Minister chose to mention all senior state officials, even those considered to be of a lower rank than the Chief Rabbi, but did not mention him.

Following the incident, MK Yossi Tayeb of Shas sent Prime Minister Naftali Bennett a letter of protest against “contempt for the Torah,” as he defined it.

“The imprisonment of Maran Posek Hador, the first to mark our Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, in a place that does not respect Memorial Day status – very serious, but doubly serious when Bennett speaks and ignores the presence of Maran who bothered to stop his studies and honor the fourteen fallen. “Do not worry, the honor of Maran and Ziv has been alive and well forever,” Tayeb wrote.

MK Tayeb, who entered the Knesset after the resignation of Shas chairman Aryeh Deri as part of the plea deal, added in his letter to Bennett that he demands to know who changed the seat of Rishon Lezion and whether the prime minister intends to apologize for the injury.

It should be noted that this is not the first time such an incident has happened to the prime minister, and it happened last year to the current leader of the opposition, Benjamin Netanyahu, who forgot to mention – and then called to apologize.
