II League: União de Leiria halts Benfica B’s momentum at Seixal

by time news

União de Leiria stopped the good moment of Benfica B, which had four matches in the II League to gain points. On Monday afternoon, the unusual time (4pm) did not prevent more than fifty fans of the Lis team from visiting Seixal.

Despite the Reds’ dominance, Kieszek’s stops and Tiago Ferreira’s opportunism were decisive in the outcome of the match. At the 76th minute, the former FC Porto defender opened the scoring, following a corner, from the right.

Bura’s deflection was decisive in “deceiving” several defenders and goalkeeper André Gomes. At the far post, Tiago Ferreira scored the visitors’ only shot in the second half and capitalized on the opportunity.

Between tactical changes and adaptations, Nélson Veríssimo’s team was not able to restore equality, nor in numerical superiority, after the direct red shown to Diogo Amado, at 87m.

The triumph moves União de Leiria out of the relegation zone, moving up to 13th place, with 23 points. In the next round, on Saturday, the Leirienses host FC Porto B, 11th placed, with 25 points.

The pink lantern, in the maintenance play-off, is held by Leixões, which has 17 points. Below are Länk Vilaverdense, with 16 points, and Belenenses, with 13.

In turn, Benfica B remains in 9th place, with 26 points. The young eagles visit Marítimo on Sunday, involved in the race for promotion to the League.
