Police have arrested an IIT graduate who attacked a police officer and tried to enter a temple in Uttar Pradesh.

An IIT graduate attacked two policemen outside the Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and tried to enter the temple chanting religious slogans.

Gorakhnath Temple is the headquarters of the Gorakhnath Monastery where the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath is the Chief Priest.

According to police, the victim was identified as Murtaza, a resident of Gorakhpur, who graduated from the prestigious IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Mumbai in 2015. Laptops, phones and tickets were confiscated from him.

Additional Director General of Law and Order Prasanth Kumar said

It appears that a large plot was hatched from the materials recovered from that person, and there is no denying that this may have been a terrorist attack.Currently our investigation is at an early stage. He said two cases have been registered against him and local police are now investigating.
