The Swedish furniture and home decoration giant, IKEA has announced the opening date of its second store in Colombia. This inauguration will mark the chain’s fourth establishment in South America, in line with its expansion plan that includes a total of 9 stores in Chile, Colombia and Peru.
Due to the partnership between IKEA and the Chilean group Falabella it is possible to establish these nine stores in the aforementioned markets. To date, the company has opened two in Chile, and at the end of September 2023 it entered Colombia, now preparing to open its second location.
It is important to highlight, within the expansion plan for the region, the first one shop in Colombialocated in Mallplaza NQS in the city of Bogotá, the largest store of the brand, with approximately 26,000 square meters of sales area.
When will IKEA open its second store in Colombia?
IKEA has confirmed the opening date of its second store in Colombia. The chain will open the doors of its new store in Cali next May 8in the recently opened Mallplaza shopping center.

This location is easily accessible to Cali residents, close to important streets, stations and bus stops that connect different areas of the city. “This will make it easier for 90% of the population to reach the store in less than 60 minutes”the company reported.
During the launch event, visitors who purchase any furniture and decoration product, regardless of its value, will be able to participate in the drawing for one of the 1,000 IKEA products, as well as one of the 20 bonuses of $1,000,000 or $10,000,000 bonus to exchange for brand products.
When would IKEA arrive in Peru?
As we have indicated above, this store is the fourth opening of the expansion plan of the IKEA – near Falabella– for the South American region within a period of 10 years. The disembarkation involves a a total investment of US$ 600 million for Chile, Colombia and Peruplace in addition to the shops, will e-commerce portals.
Medellín is also included in IKEA’s expansion plan in Colombia. And although the exact date on which it will open its doors is not yet known, the chain estimates that it will happen in the second half of this year. This location will have approximately 18,000 m2, according to the firm, and will be located in the Viva Envigado shopping center.
As for the Peruvian market, its first store is expected to open in 2026. IKEA has confirmed that it plans to evaluate the impact of its stores in Chile and Colombia, as well as find possible locations for its headquarters in Peru.
