The other hand continues to shine. Ikea will test a new peer-to-peer site until the end of the year to allow customers in Madrid (Spain) and Oslo (Norway) to sell and buy their furniture, the Swedish company announced to Money Timesbefore the global launch.
“This has been a dream in the making for some time,” Jesper Brodin, managing director of Ingka, the main operator of Ikea stores, told the daily business across the channel. “If many people use the offer to get a discount at Ikea, it is a good way to approach customers,” he explained then.
A test phase before a global launch
“We plan to launch the program in other regions soon” wrote the new son of the Swedish giant: Ikea Preowned. If the experience is positive, it should really be expected worldwide soon, to compete with auction sites like Leboncoin, Vinted or eBay.
More precisely, on this new auction site, it is possible to sell and buy only furniture from the Swedish brand, whether new or old, except for food products, mattresses or kitchen appliances.
The platform is planning to increase user ads by adding a photo base but also to offer price recommendations based on the location of the item and its purchase price, indicating that the strategy would like to see that they are also sold for half the original price.
