Ikke Hipgold likes to warm his fans in Mallorca. For the European Championships, the singer sold fan items to his fans under the label “National Party Team”. This business idea has now cost Hipgold dearly after a legal dispute.

Only a few people know Matthias Distel. Ikke Hipgold is even better known for this. Under this stage name, singer Distel likes to warm up his fans from the stage. Ballermann’s preferred on Mallorca. His own job is to spread a good mood. Now Hipgold’s happiness has worn off a bit.

Singer Ballermann paid a total of 71,000 euros following a legal dispute with the German Football Association (DFB). The background to the dispute was jerseys and drinking games sold by the pop singer for the European Football Championship under the label “National Party Team”.

The conflict arose because the logo used by Hülsegold was similar to that of the DFB – however, the eagle on the jersey featured a beer mug. The DFB saw this as an illegal use of its logo and filed a lawsuit with the Munich Regional Court. “The DFB stands for health, sport and a drug-free life – not for drinking games,” says “Bild” in a statement from the association.

He continues: “It was clear to us that consumers could be misled as to the origin of the ‘party’s national team’ jersey – the similarity between our previous DFB training clothes is too great. We want and need to protect our logo from anyone using or misusing it without our permission.”

Hip gold fights against the DFB

Distel was unimpressed with the DFB’s argument and harshly criticized the association’s attitude: “From the Bundesliga to the district league, everything is sponsored by beer brands, match suppliers on the jerseys. In this way, the people responsible are driving children to alcohol and gambling addiction. I’d rather pay the money and keep fighting.”

Distel rejected a settlement offered by the DFB. This would mean that he would still be allowed to sell the jerseys he had already ordered, but that he would have to donate the money. Instead, the singer decided to pay the 71,000 euros decided by the court. This amount includes court and legal fees, as well as the cost of the jerseys that cannot be sold.

Despite the high amount, Distel is combative: “I don’t give a shit about the 71,000 euros,” he told “Bild”: “I won’t let the association shut me down.”
