Gangai Amaran is a versatile music composer, songwriter, screenwriter, actor and film director in Tamil cinema. He is the brother of composer Ilayaraja and made his directorial debut in the 1982 film Kozhi Koothu. Ilayaraja composed most of the films he directed.
Although he has worked with his brother Ilayaraja in a number of films, there are occasional disagreements between the two. Ilayaraja is sometimes criticized by Gangai Amaran through the media. In particular, Gangai Amaran strongly criticized Ilayaraja for sending notices to the SBP asking for copyright.
Gangai Amaran has been without any talks with Ilayaraja for the last 13 years. The two have never even met at family events. However their sons continued to appreciate the friendship.
In this context, Ilayaraja and Gangai Amaran recently reunited to put an end to the 13-year rift. The photo taken when the two met was released and went viral on social media. Their reunion was celebrated by both families.
Gangai Amaran talks flexibly about his meeting with ilaiyaraja. He said: “I met my brother after a long day. He inquired about me and my health. He talked for over an hour about how I was a child and what I had done.
