Are you a student and looking for a work-study program for the next school year? The event taking place this Wednesday in Paris might interest you. The Medef Île-de-France organizes at the Charléty stadium (13th) its great Trades and Work-Study Festival, an annual fair where professionals present their apprenticeship and training offers for young people. More than 5,000 contracts are to be filled in the region.

“Given the difficulties of recruitment in many sectors, including safety and cleanliness, the gaping holes in transport, this event is essential, apprenticeship being a very interesting recruitment channel”, remarks Daniel Weizmann. The regional president of the employers’ organization recalls that Île-de-France concentrates more than 30% of the country’s apprentices, with 255,000 contracts in 2022.

Olympic Games, Grand Paris… offers on construction sites

“It’s the safest way to respond to a labor shortage, it allows you to train your own staff and transmit the DNA of a company”, confirms Bertrand Fert, Deputy Vice-President apprenticeship and training of the FFB (French Building Federation) Grand Paris-IDF. “With the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the construction of the Grand Paris Express, the sector is under tension. »

The construction industry, with its 120,000 businesses in the Ile-de-France region, 375,000 workers and 37 billion euros in turnover, recruits the equivalent of 10,000 apprentices per year in various trades. “As well in masonry, carpentry, as electricians, heating engineers, plasterers…” lists the deputy vice-president.

A “dirty, painful and hard” job? “No, today, we work in safety, with new software on the concrete, low-carbon constructions, thermal renovations, and the remuneration is good. They are sources of motivation. »

The number of apprenticeship contracts issued in the region is on the rise. In the transport sector in particular, with an increase of 3.5 to 4% per year. “We have major unmet needs,” points out Jean-Marc Paris, regional delegate for AFT Transport and Logistics. At the Ile-de-France level, “we have 1,600 apprenticeship contracts per year and 700 professionalizing contracts”, and some will be presented to Charléty.

Road transport of goods, travel services (tourist bus), medical transport (ambulances), river transport… There too, the sector which has 160,000 employees hopes to strengthen itself. “These are regulated activities that require permits, training in CAP or professional baccalaureate”, specifies Jean-Marc Paris, who is also CEO of the grouping of transport and handling activities in the Île-de-France region.

Industry, a “very demanding” sector

With more than 1,500 proposals at this trade show, the industrial sector is “one of the most demanding”, continues Bruno Berthet, president of the GIM (Metallurgical Industries Group), which brings together 1,800 companies and 275,000 employees. “Our industries need young people,” he insists. They still suffer from a negative image of the past, the Modern times of Charlie Chaplin, yet they are very attractive. The industry has digitized, it is driving the ecological transition, it is rather well remunerated. »

Since last year, the sector has taken on 10% more apprentices in France. “The alternation is highly valued, it is in positive evolution. Industrialists who taste it come back to it. In addition, in Île-de-France, people under 30 represent more than 20% of employees, ”abounds Bruno Berthet. In the range of activities accessible in training: “Professions around design with design offices, software and more concrete and manual production professions”.

“More than two thirds of work-study students stay in the company”

For each position to be filled, “we conduct interviews as for a normal employee”, remarks Daniel Weizmann. “You can be wrong, the apprentice can change his mind during the year, he’s not always convinced, it happens. The placement rate is 70%, that’s high, that is to say that more than two thirds of work-study students stay in the company at the end of their contract. »

“If we consider them, make them responsible, there is no reason for them to look elsewhere, confirms Bertrand Fert. Companies are very supportive of apprenticeship because it does not cost them very much, the apprentice is a fully-fledged employee. »

This Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Charléty stadium, 99, boulevard Kellermann. FREE ENTRANCE. Info. 01.44.16.60.22.
