(CNN Español) — Ilia Calderón will be the first Univision Newscast host following the departure of Jorge Ramos next December, which was announced in September 2024.
“Calderón is now a trusted and respected voice in journalism. “He covered hurricanes and earthquakes, documented the decline of the oceans due to pollution, moderated presidential debates, and interviewed world leaders,” says the statement released by TelevisaUnivision on Monday.
The Colombian journalist has received two Emmy Awards and was awarded the Paul White Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
“Calderón is an example and an inspiration to the entire Univision News team. Stages of improvement have followed each stage of his career. His life is a story of struggle against adverse circumstances and victory built with effort and dedication. This created an indomitable personality that can be seen in all of his journalistic work,” said the president of Noticias Univision, Daniel Coronell.
With nearly 20 years of experience, Calderón takes on the responsibility of leading the Univision Newscast.
The company’s statement also emphasizes its “huge gratitude” to Jorge Ramos, who was in the job for “38 years, seven of them with Calderón.”
