The midfielder of the English “Leeds” and the national team of Bulgaria Iliya Gruev underwent a successful operation on Saturday.
Due to a problem in his right knee, he underwent an arthroscopy performed at London’s King’s College Hospital by Dr. Andrew Williams.
The invasive procedure confirmed the damage to the meniscus, taking care of it and ruling out the worst option – affected ligaments.
The forecast is that Gruev will be absent from the field between 3 and 4 months. This is the first serious injury for one of the few Bulgarian footballers who plays matches at a high level.
The 24-year-old midfielder started the season in the Championship with the “Leeds” team strongly, but now he will have to go through the tough time.
Doctor Williams, who operated on him, is one of the luminaries in knee surgery in Europe. Names such as Virgil van Dijk, Danny Welbeck, Andy Carroll, John Terry, Theo Walcott and other Premier League stars have benefited from his services. He has also operated aces in cricket, rugby and snowboarding.
Already from the hospital bed, through stories on Instagram, Ilya addressed the fans of “Leeds” and announced that he will be back soon.
In about 2 weeks, Gruev will start the recovery process.
The coach of the national team, Ilian Iliev, announced that the lack of a midfielder will have an impact. According to the specialist, Gruev has grown a lot in both phases of the game.
This is due to the fact that this season the manager of “Leeds” Daniel Farke was betting on Ilia as one of the two defensive midfielders with more offensive functions.
As such, Gruev recorded quite a few key passes and shots on goal.
