Caterina Caselli has this image of a strong woman, a bit cold, tenacious, successful, the former rebel of pop music who became an entrepreneur, the record manager who launched Elisa, Bocelli, the Negramaro … Then the documentary arrives at the Film Festival by Renato De Maria (in rooms from 13 to 15 December) One life, one hundred lives, which takes up the title of one of his famous songs.
“I have told without filters, as if I were in front of a psychoanalyst, things that I had never told before”. The death of his father reveals it from the side, with modesty: «I was 14 and society was ruthless, in church there was no celebration when there was a suicide. Dad took me to school, he never did. He told me: study. When I returned home it was full of relatives …. ».
His father, Francesco, worked in a delicatessen, his mother, Giuseppina, was a knitter. “I told her I wanted to be a singer, she replied, it’s not a job for women, you won’t get a penny from me.” Poor but cheerful, in Modena they lived in a house with two rooms: in one the kitchen, in the other there were two beds, in one slept Caterina, her sister and her mother; in the other his father. We are not far from rural Italy of Twentieth century by Bertolucci. That of Caterina is the story of an emancipation in an Italy (60s and 70s) that changed and was transformed.
