Illegal immigration: 87 Algerian migrants intercepted on the Spanish coast

Madrid – Seven inflatable boats carrying 87 illegal Algerian migrants were intercepted on the night of Sunday to Monday on the coasts of Alicante and Murcia, local authorities and emergency services announced on Tuesday.

In Alicante, elements of the emergency services and the Civil Guard located five boats on the coasts of Santa Paola, Benidorm, Pilar de la Horadada and Alfas del Pi, with 59 illegal migrants of Algerian origin on board, including two minors.

Two other boats carrying 28 Algerians were intercepted off the coast of Cartagena (Murcia), the Spanish government delegation said.

The Algerian illegal migrants, found in good health, were taken care of by the Red Cross services.

According to the count of the Spanish local authorities, 73% (4,005) of the irregular migrants who reached the peninsula and the Balearic Islands during the first half of the current year were Algerians.
