ILO Director General hails the Royal Vision for social justice in Morocco

Geneva – The Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, welcomed the progress made by Morocco to promote social justice, sustainable development and workers’ rights, in accordance with the vision of HM the King Mohammed VI.

In a congratulatory message on the occasion of the celebration by the Moroccan people of the 25th anniversary of the Sovereign’s accession to the Throne of His glorious ancestors, the UN official highlighted “the Kingdom’s efforts to promote social justice, sustainable development and workers’ rights.

He also sent his warmest congratulations to His Majesty the King and all the Moroccan people on the occasion of this celebration which “is of particular importance, because it symbolizes national unity and the continued development of Morocco, under the leadership of HM the King.

Mr. Houngbo particularly welcomed the Royal project to generalize social protection, “an ambitious initiative towards a fairer and more inclusive society”.

This project reflects “Morocco’s strong commitment to the dignity and security of all its citizens”, he underlined, recalling that he had the opportunity to observe up close, during a recent visit to the Kingdom, the significant progress made in the social field and the initiatives implemented to improve the living conditions of workers and promote inclusive growth.

The UN official also reaffirmed the ILO’s commitment to working closely with Morocco to ensure decent work and provide opportunities for all.
