Raresh Ilya was the player that Maccabi Tel Aviv brought in on the last day of the Israeli transfer deadline, but it is impossible to define him as a success so far. He played only four games in yellow and blue, when only in the game for the protocol against Maccabi Petah Tikva in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the State Cup did he make the team, and so far he has not been able to make an impact with assists or goals.

Mena continued: “Aitor Karanka is a good friend of mine, but Ilya is currently in a club that doesn’t even want to use him. They are a big club in Israel, but they don’t necessarily need it. When he returns to Nice they will want to transfer him again on loan, but they will ask him about the fact that even in Israel he did not play. If I were to manage him, there is no way I would take him to Israel. What is he looking for there? If he had returned to Rapid, he would have had a chance to be included in the senior national team.”
