“The image dominates our daily life, consumed by everyone, especially young people, often without paying attention to its sources, its veracity and its messages,” explained Ms. Akerouach in an interview with MAP at the occasion of the seventh edition of the Educational Film Festival for children from summer camps, organized last week in the regions of Rabat and Casablanca.

The association focuses on raising awareness of the dangers of the images that are flooding today, by primarily targeting children and young people threatened by the risk of addiction and imitation of “famous influencers” without being aware of the negative aspects, including the weakening of their reading, writing and direct oral communication skills, she said.

In this sense, she estimated that “image education makes the difference”, adding that “experience has taught us that participation in educational workshops supervised by specialized artists helps to adopt a positive approach to the image , focusing on quality and positive content.

Ms. Akerouach added that she noticed among all the participants in the activities of this festival a direct impact on their perception of what they consume, stressing that the educational films produced by the association since last year serve as a practical model for the beneficiaries. of the program of the said association.

Dwelling on the educational films produced by the association during the Educational Film Festival for children at summer camps, she confided that these are educational and didactic films which link theory to practice.

“We cannot realize what is happening in the workshops we organize without making these works,” she added.

For her, the value of these films, produced by a team of technicians, artists and specialized teachers supervised by the educational advisor and artistic director of the festival, Mohammed Chouika, lies in the educational messages they convey and in the participation children and young people from summer camps to their realization, from the idea to the final screening during the closing evenings of the festival.

She also indicated that her association focuses on the transition from simple consumption to understanding and realization, “which is not a difficult equation despite our limited material resources”.

Furthermore, the director of the Educational Film Festival for children in summer camps noted that this event now sees massive participation from young children, specifying that more than 600 children and young people benefited from nightly screenings of films at the summer camp. Tamaris holiday in Casablanca during this edition, while the closing ceremony of the second edition of the festival at the El Haouzia holiday camp attracted nearly a thousand young spectators.

Discussing the association’s plans to expand the festival to other cities, Ms. Akerouach noted some challenges due to limited resources, while stressing that the association hopes to extend this event to all summer camps in the Kingdom. , especially since the festival is itinerant by nature.

Young people showed great interest in discovering and understanding image techniques during previous editions and the current edition, she welcomed, specifying: “it’s true that our ambition is great, but the challenges are too”, which requires increased support for these types of events.
