In the video shot by a member of the Société Lorraine d’Astronomie, a white dot can be seen suddenly appearing on the disk of the planet Jupiter. So astronomers realized that they had immortalized the impact of a large object in the atmosphere, most likely an asteroid or a comet. The impact occurred when it was 00:39 in Italy on 14 September.
