Due to the intensification of the northeast monsoon, it is raining widely in Tamil Nadu. Heavy rains lashed several districts including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanyakumari and Nellai due to atmospheric circulation, low pressure area and low pressure zone. Heavy rains in Chennai and some parts of its suburbs have not yet receded.

Meanwhile, successive rains are affecting the normal life of the people.

According to the Met Office, the Andaman Sea will move west and northwest into a depression today and strengthen into a storm in the central Bay of Bengal tomorrow.

The newly formed storm is to be named ‘Javid’. This is the name given by Saudi Arabia. This name is on the list for the storm. ‘Javid’ means mercy in Arabic.

A red alert has been issued for the state of Odisha as a precautionary measure against ‘Javid’ storm.

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rains on December 4 in Odisha, December 5 in West Bengal and northeastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur on December 5 and 6.
