“The commitment of the Prime Minister for 6,500 recruitments in public health in 2024, as well as the plan presented by the political leadership of the Ministry of Health for the recruitment of 800 permanent staff positions in the EKAV, creates the conditions for covering the problem of understaffing of the General Hospital Rhodes but also of EKAV on the island”, points out the Member of Parliament of Dodecanese, Mr. Manos Konsolas, in his parliamentary intervention to the Ministry of Health.

Manos Konsolas emphasizes that in the planning, with regard to the notices that will be issued for recruitment within 2024, needs must be met such as:

– The staffing of the three vacant positions of oncologists at the Hospital, given that one of the doctors currently serving in this specialty is retiring.

– Reinforcement of the radiology department with radiologists and radiologist operators so that the magnetic tomograph and mammogram can function fully and seamlessly.

– The immediate staffing of the ICU of the hospital with nursing staff.

– The announcement of a hematologist position for the full and uninterrupted operation of the Mediterranean Anemia department, in which there is currently only one doctor.

– The announcement of the vacancies of pathologists and also the coverage of the needs of the pathology clinic, given that the retirement of three doctors of this particular clinic is imminent.

– The immediate staffing of EKAB with rescuers, in order to cover all shifts as well as the needs of passengers.

The Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese underlines that the Rhodes Hospital, in addition to meeting the public health needs of a top tourist destination with thousands of visitors, also serves the needs of a large region, such as the South Aegean, having supra-local importance and scope.
