The latter notably reminded Europe of its responsibilities, denouncing “indifference” towards the fate of migrants and emphasizing that “those who risk their lives at sea do not invade, they seek hospitality”.

Guest of “BFM Politique”, in partnership with Le Parisien-Aujourd’hui in France, the MEP accuses the sovereign pontiff of being disconnected. “He is Argentinian and he is not aware of the problem of immigration today in Europe which is destabilizing European societies. » Another illustration, according to Bardella: “When he says, Marseille is a haven of peace, allow me, like all French people, to take offense and say that he does not know Marseille,” he noted .

“I don’t think that’s his role”

Jordan Bardella, who said he was “a non-believer, but respects those who have faith”, also judged that the sovereign pontiff was making a “political speech”. “I think that’s not his role,” he believes. The future head of the RN list in the European elections also said he preferred “the wisdom of his predecessors, and in particular of Benedict XVI, who declared that States have the right to regulate migratory flows”.

A week after the president of Reconquest Éric Zemmour, who described the thousands of migrants arriving in Lampedusa as “invaders”, Jordan Bardella reiterated his firm line on the subject. “What is happening today on this small Italian island of 6,000 inhabitants will be the future of Europe tomorrow, if we do not regain control of our immigration policy now,” he said, taking as an example the migration policies carried out in “Mr. Orban’s Hungary” and in Denmark.

Jordan Bardella nevertheless refused to become the “advocate” of Giorgia Meloni, the far-right president of the Italian Council. At the head of a country where, despite his anti-immigration promises, the number of arrivals on the transalpine coasts has increased since his election a year ago. According to Jordan Bardella, who raises the threat of a surge from “all of Africa” to the European continent, “France has become a social window for the whole world”.
