The International Maritime Organization (IMO) congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

In a greeting letter sent to Sheikh Hasina, IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez said, I congratulate you for every success in carrying out the duties of this high office.

He said, as the United Nations agency responsible for regulating shipping, IMO is heavily engaged in supporting its member states in managing a safe, secure and environmentally sound shipping sector to protect our oceans and manage a sustainable supply chain with reliability and efficiency globally.

Mentioning that Bangladesh has always played an important role in the IMO, Arsenio Dominguez said, I am sure that your prudent leadership will contribute significantly to achieving our common goals.

Arsenio Domínguez noted Bangladesh’s proactive steps – particularly its recent initiatives to become a party to the Hong Kong International Convention on Ship Safety and Environmentally Friendly Recycling and maritime security.

He exemplified Bangladesh’s commitment to environmental stewardship. He said this laudable step not only facilitated the implementation of the Convention but also emphasized the impactful results of our technical cooperation activities.

Arsenio Domínguez said Bangladesh’s actions serve as a beacon to encourage other countries to join global efforts to create a more sustainable maritime future.

IMO Secretary General also said, We look forward to Bangladesh’s continued involvement and leadership in IMO’s efforts.
