Impact of Leonard Intersection Tunnel Closure on Brussels Ring Road Traffic: What to Expect

by time news

This has been going on for several months on the Brussels ring road and continues. Work at the Leonard intersection is entering a new phase. This morning, the tunnel connecting Zaventem to Waterloo is completely closed to traffic. What impact will this closure have on traffic today?

Some motorists thought the situation would improve with the start of the holidays. This morning it was quite the opposite, at least for those coming from Zaventem and heading towards Waterloo.

The tunnel that passes under the Leonard crossing towards Waterloo has been closed since this morning. The result: all traffic must pass on the surface, both for those turning left towards Namur and those turning left towards Waterloo. So this means that a lot of people have to pass on the surface and obviously traffic has been deeply affected, especially at rush hour.

Our team on site lost an average of about forty minutes in an already complex situation.

The bad news is that this situation will continue until the end of summer, as the tunnel will remain closed until mid-September. Drivers passing through here are still disappointed.

Major traffic jam around Leonard intersection next week: here’s what awaits you

,We waited for 30 minutes without moving, so that’s it, I take it philosophically. It’s the second day of my holidays and I have three weeks left. (…) There, it was really at a standstill, it was starting to get heavy again. As for the motorists, I feel sorry for the people who have to work“, a motorist told us.

,It remains difficult and you can never predict. That is the problem, we must always give room for manoeuvre. We will see, we will stay calm, that is the main thing“, another shared with us.

,Since they are under construction, we do not understand why. To drive, in any case, through Quatre Bras, to reach areas like Braine-l’Alleud or Waterloo, it is the only road“, a third lamented.
