Speaking at a panel on the theme “What media do we need now?”, these media professionals were unanimous in noting that social networks are becoming a fully-fledged medium for improving quality and that digital “is only a tool for improving productivity and offering targeted and credible content.”

In this regard, Nawfal Raghay, Managing Director of the Chada Group, considered that digital should not be seen as a “panacea” to recreate a sector, noting that digital is only a tool and a means to improve productivity and refine targeting when it comes to advertising and to facilitate the work of content creators.

The former Director General of HACA stressed that “we must not compete with social networks”, but have a “head start over these networks”, explaining that with the experience accumulated by traditional media, they are better equipped to represent and highlight Moroccan identity.

In this sense, Mr. Raghay emphasized the importance for the media to demonstrate intelligence in the design of content, considering that the important deadlines of the 2030 World Cup and the 2025 African Cup are an ideal opportunity for traditional media to shine.

For his part, Khalid Belyazid, publishing director of the economist and Atlantique Radio, noted that newspapers and audiovisual products are called upon to adapt to today’s “highly digitalized” world, estimating that there is a “crowd of publications” to the extent that anyone can improvise as a journalist.

Today, you have to have high added value to be able to assert yourself and there is no other way out than to be good and to know your job well, both the information aspect and the entertainment aspect, to shine, he noted.

“We cannot promote products and information, hence the importance of regulating the sector,” said Mr. Belyazid, noting that from the moment we undertake an action in the public domain, “we must respect the rules of ethics and consumer protection.”

For him, it is imperative to protect the contents and articles of newspapers within the framework of copyright protection, believing that despite the economic crisis, “traditional media can still promote their products as they are of high quality.”

For his part, Yata Zouhair, publication director of the Nouvelle tribune, stressed that today Morocco is developing, and “we need media that develop the quality and professionalism” of their work to differentiate themselves from all the products that are available on the internet.

According to him, to follow the trend without falling into mediocrity, it is necessary to choose one’s fight since one cannot be relevant in all subjects.

In this regard, Mr. Zouhair advocated for investment in the quality of content, and for providing more opportunities to young people who have a better grasp of today’s codes.

As for El Mehdi Allabouch, general manager of “Horizon press”, he noted that the press has experienced a decline in economic terms and audience with the evolution of social networks and artificial intelligence and other inputs, ensuring that the Moroccan press is capable of meeting these challenges.

In this sense, the professional emphasized the importance of integrating social networks as a support in its own right and using artificial intelligence to reduce work time and improve quantity and quality.

Nasri Nasredine, a journalist at “La nouvelle Tribune” and “Canal+”, noted that traditional media are called upon to adapt by offering a quality product, noting that a quality product requires journalists who are experts in their fields.

“It is necessary to go to the Safety Brands by relying on journalists who bring credibility and expertise,” he said.

The 2024 edition of Les Impériales, a major meeting place for professionals in the communications, marketing and related industries, invites reflection on Moroccan identity, its roots, its assets and its inspirational strength.
