Celia Maya García, advisor to the Federal Judicial Council (CJF)called for the introduction of the different tools that technology offers within the law, for the benefit of justice.

“Adapting to these new technologies is not an option, but a necessity to fulfill the mandate of justice in a society that is increasingly connected,” Maya stressed.

During the third seminar on Administrative Law in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, organized by the Institute of Legal Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the counselor highlighted the implementation of the electronic file: “This system has revolutionized the way we manage judicial cases.

It is not just a replacement of paper with digital documents, but a complete transformation of how judicial information is structured and accessed.”he explained.
He explained that digitalisation has enabled faster and more secure access to documentation, improving efficiency and transparency in the system.

He also highlighted the continued implementation of virtual hearings, promoted during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“What started as a temporary measure has become standard practice in many cases”he said, highlighting that these hearings have provided greater flexibility and reduced costs for those seeking justice, especially in situations where the parties reside in different states.

However, Maya García warned that one of the biggest challenges for the use of technology in justice is that in Mexico there are marked socioeconomic and geographic differences that limit access to the Internet in some regions of the country.

“It is essential that we work to close this gap by offering training programs that allow all citizens to benefit from the digital tools available. This should be as simple and natural as using a banking app.”he emphasized.

He also proposed strengthening cybersecurity and data privacy, and thus integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the judicial system.

“AI can help us analyze large volumes of information and optimize decision-making. However, we must be cautious in its implementation”he warned, assuring that these technologies should complement, and not replace, human judgment.
