by times news cr

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced that representatives of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, following consultations hosted by the mission at its headquarters in Tripoli on Monday and Tuesday, reached important understandings regarding the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya, especially regarding the mechanism and deadlines for appointing the governor and board of directors of the bank.

The mission reported that representatives of the two councils requested an additional period of five days to complete their consultations and reach a final consensus on the arrangements necessary to manage the bank until a new governor and board of directors are appointed.

The mission reminded all Libyan parties of the negative impacts of the ongoing crisis in the Central Bank of Libya on the daily lives of citizens and on the confidence of international financial institutions in the Libyan banking system.

The UN mission also praised the atmosphere of cooperation that prevailed in the consultations with the two councils on the one hand and the representative of the Presidential Council on the other hand, calling at the same time on all parties to fulfill their obligations, refrain from any unilateral decisions and measures, and ensure that efforts are intensified to reach an agreement without delay.
