A new underpass will be built, which will eliminate the current level crossings between platforms
Adif takes a further step in improving the accessibility of the Villabona station, in the nucleus of Cercanas de Asturias, with an investment of 6.8 million euros.

With this action, the level crossings between platforms will be replaced by steps at different levels, in order to promote the safety and accessibility of passengers to the station, including people with reduced mobility. Likewise, the remodeling of the platforms will be carried out, to adapt them to the requirements of interoperability, both in dimensions and finishes.
The Villabona station forms part of the nucleus of the Cercanas de Asturias and is located at kilometer point 151/917 of the Gijn Sanz Crespo-Venta de Baos line. The Villabona-San Juan de Nieva line, of which it is the head, departs from it.
The investment is integrated into the Asturias Commuter Plan, which promotes the renewal and modernization of local infrastructure in the region.
Remodeling of the north platform
The main actions provided for in the contract are the following:
Execution of an underpass to provide external access to the Villabona station. Construction of the access ramp from Calle Estación to the entrance of the underpass. Execution of ramps, suitable for people with reduced mobility, and stairs to connect the underpass with the platforms. Remodeling of the north platform, which serves track 6, to guarantee interoperability and accessibility. Execution of a new south platform, between tracks 1 and 3, which will serve track 1. To do this, track 3 will be moved to the south and the railway facilities will be adapted to the new layout of this track. Installation of shelters on the platforms to protect users against inclement weather. Provision of electricity, lighting, sanitation, telecommunications and protection and security installations.
The work has been awarded to the consortium formed by the companies Tecsa Constructora and Comsa, with an execution period of 15 months.
