Efforts to make subway stations more accessible are paying off in the city.

Such is the case of the East 149th Street stop of the “6” train in the Bronx, which now has two new elevators.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority indicated that this marks the completion of its fifth accessible station project so far this year.

As part of the work, three staircases were replaced.

There will also be additional renovations, including new lighting, platform edges, ventilation and other repair work.

MTA Chairman Jano Lieber noted during the event that accessibility is a right and one of the MTA’s top priorities, adding that they will not be satisfied until all subway stations are accessible.

There are currently 29 accessible station projects under construction, of which SEVEN will be completed by the end of this year.
