At the World Cup stage held on their own track in Sigulda over the weekend, all six members of the Latvian luge team who competed in the individual competitions took the highest place in the season, while in the crew competition team leaders Mārtiņš Bots and Roberts Plūme took the lead in the overall standings.

“The result is good, although some of the leading riders were still sour after winning the silver medal. The robots and Christer went for the gold, and everyone expected it from them, so there was a bit of a feeling of unfinished business, even in spite of the high places, ” the general secretary of the Latvian Luge Sports Federation (LKSF) Kristaps Mauriņš summarized the home stage. He agreed that the results achieved and – even more – the fans and atmosphere gathered at the Sigulda track can create a lift in the team for the second half of the season.

Already on the first day of the competition, Latvian athletes Elīna Ieva Bota, as well as the crews of Mārtiņš Bota/Roberta Plūma and Marta Robežniece/Kitija Bogdanova won a full set of awards, but on Sunday Kristers Aparjods added another silver medal. In the previous three stages of this season, only crews managed to get into the top three, besides, the highest places in the previous World Cup were won not only by Bota (1st) and Aparjods (2nd), but also Gints Bērziņš (6th), Kaspars Rinks (11th), Candy Aparjode (12th) and Zane Kaluma (20th) and several junior athletes got the first points.
