Maryam Nawaz, one of the leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has said that Imran Khan has begged the army to retain his post as prime minister.

Imran Khan was ousted as Prime Minister of Pakistan after failing to vote on a no-confidence motion brought by the opposition. Shebaz Sharif is currently the new Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Imran Khan has been sharply critical of the opposition since he lost the PM’s job.

Speaking at a meeting in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said Imran Khan had fought till the last minute to retain his post as Prime Minister. Nawaz said Imran had asked the army for help to stay in office, but the army refused. Nawaz also spoke to Asif Ali Zardari, the co-leader of the Pakistan People’s Party, and Imran Khan, who begged him to spare them during the no-confidence motion. Notably, Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
