Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed shock over the killing and burning of a Sri Lankan national in Pakistan on charges of blasphemy. He said it was a day of shame for Pakistan and that he would oversee the investigation into the mob attack and bring all those responsible to justice. Imran said police have been instructed to complete the investigation within 48 hours. Police have arrested more than 100 people in connection with the massacre. Priyananda Kumara, a factory manager in Sialkot district of Punjab province, was brutally killed. Kumara was beaten by a mob for allegedly destroying a poster inscribed with Qur’anic verses. The body of Kumara, who was killed in the attack, was burnt on the street. Pakistani President Dr. Arif Alvi also tweeted that the Sialkot incident was very sad and shameful. At the same time, the Sri Lankan government strongly condemned the incident. Sri Lankan MP and son of current Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa, has reacted to the incident by saying that it could happen to anyone if the militant forces were allowed to operate freely.
