Islamabad: The government of Pakistan has decided to ban former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Information Minister Ataullah Tarar in the Shahbaz Sharif government has given this information. On Monday, Tarar said that his government is going to ban PTI because Pakistan and PTI cannot live together. This party and its ideology have become a threat to the country and its people are involved in anti-national activities. Along with banning PTI, the Pakistan government has also announced to impose Article 6 against Imran Khan, former President Arif Alvi and former Deputy Chairman Qasim Suri. Under Article 6, the case can be sentenced to death. This may also put them in trouble for contesting elections in the future.
Announcing the decision to ban PTI, Minister Tarar said that there is credible evidence to take action against PTI. He said that in view of the foreign funding case, 9 May riots, the Sifar episode and the resolution passed in the US, our government believes that there is very credible evidence to ban PTI.
Supreme Court’s decision also challenged
According to the Dawn report, the country’s Information Minister Atta Tarar has said that Shahbaz Sharif’s government will also file a review petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan against last week’s decision. In this decision, the status of PTI as a political party has been confirmed. The Supreme Court had ruled that Imran Khan’s party is eligible for more than 20 additional reserved seats in the national legislature. This decision has increased the pressure on the coalition government within the House. The government will also challenge this decision.
71-year-old Imran Khan has been a popular cricketer of Pakistan. Under his captaincy, Pakistan won the ODI World Cup in 1992. After sports, he entered politics. His troubles started after he stepped down from the post of PM in 2022. Several cases were registered against him and he was arrested. Imran is currently lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
