IMSS promises to reopen all Acapulco hospitals before Christmas

After the disaster caused by Hurricane Otis, it is time to support and rebuild the affected area. With this in mind, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) presented a program with which it is committed to reopening all Acapulco hospitals before Christmas.

In this case, the general director of the Institute, Zoé Robledo, announced that the main objective will be based on three main actions that will be carried out to have ready the medical units as soon as possible.

Total IMSS hospitals and clinics in Acapulco with damages

He reported that within the damage diagnosis it was recorded that eight units had severe damage, two hospitals and six clinics of the IMSS-Wellbeing.

He explained that eight units with moderate damage were registered, three IMSS-Bienestar hospitals and five UMF; and 110 IMSS-Bienestar clinics had minor damage.

Plan to reopen IMSS hospitals in Acapulco

As part of the strategy, the priority is to direct all efforts towards the three hospitals in IMSS Wellbeing region of. In this case it is El Quemado, Renacimiento and the State Cancer Institute (Iecan) because they are the ones that provide care to the population without social security.

In addition, progress will also be made to have the five Family Medicine Units (UMF) of the IMSS and 110 IMSS-Wellness clinics fully operational by that date.

He added that the second part of the plan is to recover in 100 days the six health centers belonging to the IMSS-Bienestar damaged by Otis in the state of Guerrero.

While, thirdly, work will be carried out on a major remodeling of the Regional General Hospital (HGR) No. 1 “Vicente Guerrero” in the next 10 months. The idea is to enable 116 hospital beds in temporary units.

Robledo indicated that in 10 months there will be a total replacement of the IMSS-Wellness Advanced Primary Health Care Center (CAAPS) in the Progreso neighborhood.

On the other hand, it is expected that the construction and equipment of the new hospital will be completed by August 2024. Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (Issste) in Guerrero with an investment of three thousand 320 million pesos.

With the purpose of speeding up recovery in Acapulco and ensuring affordable medical treatments, ISSSTE launched an emerging strategy to not affect the drug supply chain.

Currently, a total of 749 keys and 538,401 pieces of healing material and supplies have been delivered to continue health services.

With the coordination of the Administration and Finance directorates; Medical and Representative Offices, as well as with the parastatal company Biologicals and Reagents of Mexico (Birmex), permanent tracking, monitoring and communication is carried out to guarantee the shipment and delivery of supplies to medical units in a timely manner.
