Some tips to prevent plantar fasciitis are to maintain proper control of body weight, have a healthy lifestyle, and perform warm-up exercises before playing sports.
This condition is more common after 40 years of age and up to 60, when the patient begins to lose elasticity, mainly due to a sedentary life.
There are different treatment options for patients and around 90% are cured.

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) attended 31 thousand 240 patients with plantar fasciitis throughout the past year. It is a pathology that is identified by the inflammation of the tendon on which the body rests when walking. This was reported by the Clinical Coordinator of the Surgery Department of the Zone General Hospital (HGZ) No. 1 in Tlaxcala, Dr. Miguel Erick Pérez Téllez.

The specialist in traumatology and orthopedics added that there is a record of 364 PLANTAR FASCIA RELEASE SURGICAL PROCEDURES.

He stressed that to treat this disease, Social Security offers various treatments, which include the use of analgesics and anti-inflammatories. In addition to physical medicine therapy and rehabilitation, which together help solve on average 90 percent of cases.

Tips to prevent risks

To prevent this type of tendon inflammation, he recommended controlling body weight, having a healthy lifestyle, warming up before playing sports, applying heel massages using relaxing creams for 3 to 5 minutes. Also perform stretching of the soles of the feet, wear shoes with medial support, maintain adequate rest and avoid standing for too long or prolonged walks without rest.

“Plantar fasciitis severely limits gait and when standing for long periods of time, it becomes disabling for the sufferer.”

He added that the remaining 10 percent will require injections directed at the painful regions of the foot or surgical treatment. It is a procedure that releases the plantar fascia from its insertion with the bone and from the resection of a bony protrusion that is formed, the so-called calcaneal spur.

Miguel Erick Pérez highlighted that this condition is more common from the age of 40 to 60, when the patient begins to lose elasticity, mainly due to a sedentary life.

He explained that when inflames the plantar fasciathat ligament that connects the posterior part of the foot with the forefoot, on which the weight of the body rests and the take-off function when walking, causes pain with a burning sensation in the extremity and limits walking.

The Social Security specialist stated that the factors that cause the condition are: practicing arduous physical exercise without warming up or stretching, working for long periods while standing or with prolonged marches, and wearing very rigid shoes, without arches and cushioning on the heel.

He stated that due to being overweight, deformities such as cavus foot and fascia are subjected to greater stress at the bone insertions found in the heel and head of the lower bones.
