One of the promises made by Pedro Sánchez during the investiture debate was the simplification of the requirements for access to the Minimum Vital Income (IMV) so that “more households can collect it.” Since its creation in 2020, this aid has reached 690,214 families made up of a total of 2,013,439 people (the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration does not specify how many of them receive it at this time), a figure that would only cover the 65% of the 800,000 that the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) estimates meet the requirements to receive it.

This year, the amounts received by its beneficiaries range from 565.37 euros per month (there are twelve payments totaling 6,784.44 euros) charged by an adult who lives alone up to 1,243.83 euros per month (14,925.96 per year). that are perceived in homes where there are at least four people and at least one of them is a minor. These figures are those established after the 15% increase decreed on an extraordinary basis in July 2022 and later extended in 2023 for non-contributory retirement and disability pensions, to which the IMV is referenced.

At this point we must remember that in March of this year, in the second part of the reform of the public pension system, the Government established the progressive increase in these categories until they are equivalent to 75% of the poverty line in 2027. calculated for a single-person household. That is to say, their revaluations are not linked solely to the CPI, but over the next few years they will add a bonus to this percentage that the Government will indicate each year in the General State Budgets. Although the formation of the Government has delayed the preparation of public accounts, on October 11, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration published the report ‘Projections of Public Expenditure on Pensions in Spain’, which gives some clue about what it is to be expected.

In this document, the forecasts are made taking as a starting point an interannual inflation of 4%, that is, two tenths above the provisional data advanced this week by the INE. It indicates that the 6,785 euros established as the full annual fee in 2023 for non-contributory disability and retirement pensions will rise in 2024 to 7,244, which implies an increase of 459 euros (6.76%).
