First, at 10 a.m. Latvian time, Tīna Graudiņa/Anastasija Samoilova will play the round of 16 of the beach volleyball elimination tournament. All competitions with the participation of Latvian athletes are scheduled to be broadcast live on LTV7.
The Latvians’ opponent in the second round of the elimination tournament will be Germany’s Svenja Miller/Cinja Tilman. This season, both duos have exchanged victories in the “Elite 16” tournaments.
In the subgroup of the Olympic Games tournament, the Latvian duo, seeded with the ninth number, won two out of three games, and the Germans, who have the tenth number, accumulated the same balance in another subgroup.
At 11 a.m., Jay Delaney Patrick will start the preliminaries in the 10-meter tower. 18 athletes from 29 participants will qualify for the semi-finals, which will start at 4 p.m.
Patrika, who is the first representative of Latvia in figure jumping at the Olympic Games, will start with number four. Each figure jumper will perform five jumps.
At 1:19 p.m., Gunta Vaičule will take part in the preliminaries of the 400-meter sprint in athletics.
From the six races, the winners of the first three places will enter the semi-finals, while the rest will participate in the consolation round. These phases of the competition will be held on Wednesday and Tuesday respectively.
Kristaps Neretnieks with the horse “Palladium KJV” will lead the qualification in equestrian sports at 15:00. Out of 74 participants, the best 30 will qualify for the final on Tuesday.
In 3×3 basketball, the Olympic champions will be determined today – Nauris Miezis and Kārlis Lasmanis will claim to become two-time gold medalists, while Francis Lācis and Zigmārs Raimo will try to win their first Olympic titles.
On Sunday, in the first round of the elimination tournament, France beat Serbia 22:19, while Lithuania beat Poland 21:15.
The semi-final between Latvia and France will start at 20:00, but before that at 19:00 the Netherlands and Lithuania will fight for the other ticket to the final. The bronze match is planned for 22.30, and the final – 23.30.
Finally, at 8 p.m., Olympic debutant Valters Kreis will compete in the pole vault final.
The 20-year-old Kreis, who is the youngest participant in the competition, cleared the starting height of 5.40 meters on his first attempt in the qualification on Saturday, then also jumped 5.60 and 5.70 meters on his first run. None of the three attempts at a height of 5.75 meters were successful, and to reach the final, one had to hope for entry into the top twelve. The Latvian shared the 11th place with the Australian Curtis Marshall and both were the last to secure places in the final.
The Olympic Games will take place in the French capital until August 11, and not only in the French capital, but also in 16 other places, including the French overseas territory of French Polynesia. The Games program includes 32 sports and 329 sets of medals will be distributed.
At the Paris Games, Latvia will be represented by 29 athletes in 14 sports: 3×3 basketball, BMX supercross and freestyle, show jumping, equestrian sports, mountain biking, shooting, modern pentathlon, swimming, beach volleyball, weightlifting, road cycling, tennis and athletics.
