Kabul:

19 people have been flogged in Afghanistan’s northeastern province for prostitution, theft and running away. A Supreme Court official has said this information. A court official said that 10 men and 9 women who were sentenced in Talogan city of Takhar province were flogged 39 times and this punishment was carried out in the presence of elders, scholars and public in the main mosque of the city after the Friday prayer on the 11th.

This is said to be the first official report of flogging and caning punishments being carried out since the Taliban seized power in August last year.

Previously, during the previous Taliban regime in the late 1990s, Taliban courts carried out public executions, flogging and stoning of those convicted of crimes.

It is noteworthy that a Taliban spokesperson recently said that they are committed to implementing all Sharia laws.
