A direct competitor for the French group Castel, which held most of the market in this small country in sub-Saharan Africa? This announcement is mainly symbolic. As in the military field, Russian competition is accompanied by an intense disinformation campaign. In Bangui, flyers appeared to accuse the Mocaf brewery, a local subsidiary of Castel, of financing “terrorism”. “At each Castel, you finance the war and you kill yourself”, accuses the message.

In this struggle for influence, Castel has also been the subject since the summer of 2022 of a preliminary investigation by French justice for “complicit…
