(ANSA) – BOLZANO, APR 05 – In Alto Adige 46,697 people live with physical, mental or sensorial limitations recognized by a specific medical commission. The figure is growing compared to previous years, with an increase of 644 units (+1.4%) in the last year alone. This was revealed – in a press release – by the provincial section of the Civil Invalids Association (Anmic), “This increase is not proportionate to the demographic growth, since in the same period the population of Alto Adige suffered a decrease of 1,627 people, i.e. a decrease of 0.3%”, explains the president of Anmic Alto Adige, Thomas Aichner, specifying that the increase is due to the fact that many sick people “find it difficult to support their needs by relying exclusively on a few hours of work, on pension or some savings”, so they apply for civil disability.
From the association’s data, it emerges that the number of absolute civilian invalids (with 100% disability) has undergone a significant increase, with an increase of 325 people (+4.3%), while the number of civilian invalids with lower disability at 74%, the majority of the total (around 21,000 people), suffered the least growth (+0.4%). In addition to civil disability, there is certification on the general condition for the recognition of handicap (law 104/92), the numbers of which went from 15,662 in January 2023 to 16,816 at the beginning of the year (+7.37%).
As regards children and young people under 25 years of age, 2,805 disabled people were registered (+4.26%). (HANDLE).
