Teachers and education workers of the state education network of Pernambuco decided to call off the strike which was scheduled to start this Tuesday (25). The category met in an extraordinary assembly held on the morning of this Monday (24th), at Teatro Boa Vista, in the central area of Recife.
The assembly, which would only take place tomorrow, was brought forward to this Monday after the Court of Justice of Pernambuco (TJPE) declare the strike illegalitywhich had been approved by the category on July 5th.
The Court’s decision responded to a request for advance relief filed by the State government with the aim of stop the strike of state school teachers.
In the decision, the TJPE determined, in case of non-compliance, the application of daily fines of BRL 50 thousand to Sintepe. The Government of Pernambuco asked for a fine of R$ 100 mil.
The president of the Union of Workers in Education of Pernambuco (Sintepe), Ivete Caetano, commented on the category’s decision to cancel the strike.
“The education workers, in an assembly held this morning, decided to suspend the strike and abide by the court decision, although we disagree with the arguments. And we are also going to challenge this court decision with the Courts,” he said.
“We want to say that education workers will not be silenced. We suspended the strike, but we are not going to suspend the fight”, she added.
Education professionals claim non-floor salary readjustment of 14.95% for all teachers and educational managers in the state network.
During the extraordinary assembly, the Union of Workers in Education of Pernambuco (Sintepe) stated that it will appeal against the decision of the TJPE.
