The Chinese capital has recorded its heaviest rainfall in at least 140 years in recent days, as rainfall from Supertyphoon Doksuri flooded the region, turning streets into torrents. Rescue teams used dinghies to rescue stranded residents.

Beijing and the neighboring province of Hebei were heavily affected. The rains destroyed roads, cut electricity and even drinking water pipes. They flooded the rivers surrounding the capital, leaving waterlogged cars and lifting others onto bridges intended for pedestrians. The death toll rose to 21 on Wednesday August 2.
