BOLZANO. The climatological or meteorological summer ends on Saturday, August 31: “The summer started unstable, with a humid June and rather modest temperatures. In July the weather began to become fully summery, reaching its peak in August. Overall, this summer was one of the hottest since records began; in the city of Bolzano it was the fourth hottest summer since records began 174 years ago. The record summer remains that of 2003,” says the meteorologist Dieter Peterlin of the Office of Meteorology and Avalanche Prevention of the Civil Protection Agency.

Minimum and maximum summer temperatures

The highest summer temperature was recorded in Bolzano on August 12 (37.1 degrees), the minimum on the morning of June 14 in Sesto: 2.9 degrees.

Precipitation

As for precipitation, the three summer months were different from each other, meteorologist Peterlin reports: “In June it rained a lot, in July the precipitation was average while August was a little drier than normal. The overall rainfall balance is therefore balanced. There were relatively few thunderstorms. Although there were some severe storm eventsas in Alta Val d’Isarco and Val Badia, in total we recorded only 15,000 lightning strikes, half compared to previous years”.

Forecast for the next few days

Tomorrow the weather will initially be sunny, in the second part of the day however local showers and thunderstorms are not excluded. Similar situation on Sunday: after a morning of good weather, in the afternoon the possibility of thunderstorms will increase. Monday will also be sunny with isolated heat thunderstorms.
