If Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) has around ten wine bars, until recently there were no cider bars. A shame for the capital of Brittany, which prides itself on being the first producer of this drink! Arthur Mercier and Lucille Erhard put an end to this anomaly by opening two months ago, near the station, a Breton restaurant with a cider bar. Floral and lemony, full and spicy, hoppy, aged in oak whiskey or rum barrels… Arthur puts on the menu exceptional ciders that are worth the detour. He selected them himself with his partner while taking a tour of Brittany’s artisanal cider makers.

“We stopped as soon as we saw a cider house sign, it took us three weeks,” he explains with a smile. The young entrepreneur born in Rennes has set himself the objective of restoring the nobility of this flagship product of Breton gastronomy “but which we ultimately know relatively little about in the region”. Here, we do not serve the cider in bowls but in wine glasses in order to admire the diversity of colors and to preserve the aromas. The most expensive bottles, with careful labels, are priced at 52 euros (compared to an average of 3.20 euros in supermarkets).
