Buryatia did not rule out the possibility of tightening restrictive measures due to the spread of a new strain of coronavirus “omicron”. The disease was detected in four residents of the republic. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the deputy head of the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor Elena Kuzmina.

According to her, the first two infected became known last Saturday, two more cases were confirmed on Monday. Among the sick are three adults and a 15-year-old teenager, they did not travel outside the republic. The disease is mild in all, but one patient had to be hospitalized due to the presence of a chronic disease.

It is known that all adult carriers of “omicron” are vaccinated. The peak of the disease fell on the New Year holidays, so their colleagues were not included in the circle of contacts. Nevertheless, experts are taking necessary anti-epidemic measures to prevent the further spread of a dangerous disease.

As Elena Kuzmina noted, the new strain is highly contagious, so it is important to isolate patients with symptoms of SARS in a timely manner.

So far, no new restrictions on coronavirus have been introduced in the republic, but if the disease affects children’s groups, then it is likely that they will have to return to distance learning or completely suspend the work of schools and kindergartens, Rospotrebnadzor noted.
