“In case of monkey pox symptoms, immediately go to a doctor” – Dagblad Suriname

by time news

The first case of monkey pox was confirmed in Guyana on Monday, August 22. This was announced by the Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony. The patient, a male resident, has since been isolated. His condition was quite stable.

According to Dr. Anthony, the lab is well prepared. A number of doctors and laboratory staff have been trained in recent months. The President of Guyana said in this regard that there is no need for restrictions, but there is responsibility. He also noted that Guyana is in the process of securing a limited supply of vaccines.

In June of this year, the first case of monkey pox was confirmed in Brazil. Brazil is currently one of the countries most affected by the monkeypox virus. For fear of the contamination of monkey pox, monkeys have recently been killed, although the transmission is from human to human.

No cases of monkey pox have been confirmed in Suriname so far. The question is therefore to what extent Suriname is prepared for cases of monkey pox.

The Minister of Health, Amar Ramadhin, was asked by Dagblad Suriname how the preparations were going. Ramadhin first indicates that he has spoken with the minister of Guyana. He says the first case of monkey pox in Guyana involves a person who transported foreigners.

“The president also announced that no additional restrictions are needed. Hygiene and avoiding close contact is important. We also follow it from our ministry and experts such as the BOG (Bureau for Public Health Care). Society is called upon to immediately contact the general practitioner if similar symptoms appear,” said Ramadhin.
