in Charente-Maritime, the victory of the first deputy Christophe Plassard

by time news

“A self-taught and committed entrepreneur” : this is how Christophe Plassard describes himself, new deputy of the 5e constituency of Charente-Maritime. In this traditional bastion of the right, where Didier Quentin (Les Républicains), elected since 1995, was eliminated in the first round, the candidate of Horizons (Together!) had to scrap against the leader of the National Rally in the department, the Oléronnaise Séverine Werbrouck, narrowly beaten (51.74% against 48.26%). The votes of the Les Républicains party and the centrists of the UDI were not as numerous as hoped to open the doors of Parliament to the one who has been sitting since 2020 in the ranks of the opposition on the Royan municipal council.

Aged 54, married and father of three children, Christophe Plassard is not an old hand in politics. Originally from the Paris region, he quickly entered the workforce after having interrupted his studies, he created a company specializing in advertising for businesses. The discovery of Royan, where he comes to spend the holidays in the secondary residence of his in-laws, triggers, at 39, a desire elsewhere. He settled there with his family and soon established a network. Member of the Poitou-Charentes Young Leaders Center for fifteen years, before being elected president, auditor of the Institute of Advanced Business Studies, he also co-chaired the Royan business club and became vice-president of the Economic, social and environmental council of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

At the same time, he closely follows political affairs. Inserted in the UMP, with Alain Juppé as a mentor, he attempted a first candidacy for the municipal elections of 2008 in Royan, then for the partial municipal elections two years later, after the divisions within the local right. He suffers a setback each time. He finally entered the opposition in 2020, after joining Franck Riester’s Agir movement. Claiming to be on the right wing of the presidential majority, he approaches the party created by Edouard Philippe, who comes to support him during the legislative campaign. At the Palais-Bourbon, he will be one of the twenty-nine deputies of the Horizons group.
