Explosive attacks were carried out on the night of Sunday October 8 to Monday October 9 in Corsica, a judicial source confirmed on Monday, specifying that they occurred in sixteen island communities.

Two people were shocked and taken care of by firefighters after the explosion in their villa, in Coti-Chiavari on the south shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, around 4:10 a.m. while they were inside. “They were admitted to the hospital”without their condition causing concern, according to a rescuer.

Most of the targets of these abuses are “secondary homes completed or under construction and unoccupied”indicated to Monde Nicolas Septe, the public prosecutor in Ajaccio, who opened investigations for “destruction by dangerous means and transport of explosives”. He also notified the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) which was to be “seized in the night”.

Despite the few tags or inscriptions on the targeted houses suggesting an action by the Corsican National Liberation Front (FLNC), Mr. Septe has no doubt that it is a “blue night”, which bears the signature of the Corsican clandestine movement, because it is “simultaneous and it was deployed on different points of the territory”.

Several explosions were heard from 10:10 p.m. on Sunday, in the area around Ajaccio but also Bastia, in numerous villages, such as Viggianello, Vico or even Lecci, in the south of the Isle of Beauty, where three Adjoining villas were affected and tags found on the scene, according to rescuers.

In Haute-Corse, according to a judicial source, houses but also housing estates were targeted by attacks such as in Erbalonga where four explosions rang out, in Lucciana and on the eastern plain in Santa-Lucia-di-Moriani but also in Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna.

Since the death of Colonna, Corsica won by violence

These attacks come ten days after the visit to the island of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron. Within the Corsican Assembly, the Head of State came to propose “a form of autonomy” the content of which remains to be specified but which will be the subject of a “clean article” within the Constitution.

These announcements were welcomed by the territorial majority of President Gilles Simeoni who wants “chart a path for peace”but they were criticized by the independence party Corsica Libera – it only has one elected representative in the island hemicycle – which considers that the account is not there since Paris does not intend to recognize the Corsican people, nor make its language co-official.
