This Tuesday, May 2, the National Government through the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) presented the Ecuador campaign free of polio, measles and rubella 2023, at the Simón Bolívar Educational Unit in Latacunga.

With the presence of more than 300 children from educational units of the canton, teachers, parents, child care providers, local and national authorities, an emotional event was held that included vaccination and recreational activities for the little ones.

The immunization campaign for an “Ecuador free of polio, measles and rubella 2023” seeks to immunize around 3.7 million children nationwide between 1 and 12 years of age for 10 weeks. In the Zonal 3 Health Coordination, it is planned to immunize more than 356 thousand boys and girls to protect them from diseases, achieve immunity, avoid serious diseases and mortality in the provinces of Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Cotopaxi and Pastaza.

In addition, reduce the percentage of the population that is not vaccinated and that is at high or very high risk for these infectious diseases, which in Ecuador is 85% of the cantons.

“It is important to guarantee the care and growth of our children, vaccines help us keep them healthy,” said Verónica Pachala, mother of 5-year-old Mia, who received a dose of the oral bivalent vaccine against poliomyelitis (bOPV) and one dose of measles and rubella (MR) vaccine.

For her part, Cristina Aldaz, Undersecretary of First Level Comprehensive Care Networks, indicated that the National Government invests more than $23 million for vaccines, supplies, cold chain equipment, human talent, mobility, and communication actions; She also indicated that from this May 2 the health brigades will visit the educational units and child development centers during the first month of the campaign.

The population is reminded that vaccination is free and there is a sufficient stock of safe vaccines for this campaign.
