in Créteil, the “rebellious” Clémence Guetté tries to establish herself

Gathered in the Sarrazins park, in Créteil, the activists of the New Popular, Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) divide the work. For this door-to-door ” giant “Saturday, May 21, the objective is to crisscross the south of the city, which includes several blocks of buildings, to meet voters and then to make a “activist aperitif” and interact with local residents. In this district where Jean-Luc Mélenchon came out on top during the first round of the presidential election, the reception promises to be good. The militants divide into several groups and distribute cards so as not to forget any door, any building.

As often with La France insoumise (LFI), things are methodical and orderly. Meticulous. Traits which finally correspond quite well to Clémence Guetté, one of the new faces of Mélenchonistes, more and more put forward by the movement. The 30-year-old, former secretary general of the LFI group in the Assembly, responsible for the presidential program of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, presents herself in the 2e constituency of Val-de-Marne (Créteil-Sud, Choisy-Le-Roi, Orly), historically on the left. She was that, for thirty years, of Laurent Cathala, stainless socialist mayor of Créteil, elected without interruption since 1977. But in 2017, Mr. Cathala does not represent himself in the legislative elections and he is a macronist, Jean-François Mbaye, who wins the seat. And who hopes to keep it this year.

Clémence Guetté and her teams are not completely calm. Even if there is no dissident socialist candidacy against the “rebelliousness” invested by the Nupes – there are nevertheless two others on the left, two from the far left and an animalist -, the candidate knows full well that in Créteil things are always more complicated than it seems. She arrived on the constituency since ” January ” only and found accommodation in town recently. She is aware that her adversaries will not fail to attack her on this parachuting, even if the “rebellious” repeat that the legislative election is a national election and that the question of local establishment is therefore secondary. “There is something to do, this is not a constituency for a macronist. It is a popular constituency”, she says. Mme Guette also says she will campaign on social issues, including “purchasing power, housing, school and transport, but also the environment, pollution issues”.
