Hours after the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, new details began to emerge about the method and manner in which the attack was carried out in Tehran in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Palestinian media outlets quoted Iranian sources as saying that “Haniyeh was assassinated with a missile aimed directly at his body.”

In turn, the Revolutionary Guards stated in a statement that Haniyeh was killed along with one of his bodyguards, which was confirmed by the Iranian News Agency, which said that “Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed as a result of targeting his residence in Tehran.”

The Iranian News Agency said that “Haniyeh’s assassination took place at around 2:00 a.m. Tehran time,” noting that “he was staying at a special headquarters for war veterans” in the Iranian capital.

She added: “Haniyeh’s headquarters was targeted by a missile fired from the air. Further investigations are being conducted to determine the circumstances of this terrorist operation, such as the location from which the missile was fired.” She added: “Haniyeh’s residence was targeted in an area north of Tehran.”

Media outlets close to Tehran reported that the missile that killed Haniyeh was launched from outside Iran.

Hamas said in a statement that Haniyeh “died as a result of a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran, after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian.”

The Iranian Tasnim News Agency also reported that “the investigation into the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas is underway and the results will be announced soon.”

Hamas Political Bureau member Musa Abu Marzouk considered that “Haniyeh’s assassination is a cowardly act and will not pass in vain.”

Hamas announced today, Wednesday, the assassination of its political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in an Israeli raid on his residence in Tehran.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said, “We are studying the dimensions of the incident of Haniyeh’s martyrdom in Tehran and will announce the results of the investigation later.”

Israeli media reported that the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued instructions to government ministers not to comment on the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

But Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, who belongs to the Otzma Yehudit party led by Itamar Ben-Gvir, said after Haniyeh’s assassination was announced that “this is the right way to cleanse the world,” adding, “No more fake surrender agreements and no more mercy for those condemned to death.”
